Milestone birthdays

A fiftieth is a wedding reception without the ceremony, and it wants the same things: a bar, a floor and somewhere for the people who want to sit down.

The mistake with a milestone birthday is booking a restaurant's back room and discovering there is nowhere to stand, no music and no way to make a speech without standing on a chair.

What these actually need is the structure of a wedding reception — a bar, a dance floor, tables for the people who will sit all night, and a clear place to speak from. A room built for three hundred does all of that at a hundred without feeling like a hall hire.

The bar decides the budget

For an adult evening party the bar is the largest variable, not the room. Ours starts at $20 a guest, and a cash bar, a limited bar or a drinks tab are all workable — they are simply different numbers. The bar calculator will tell you what a given guest list actually drinks.

Surprise parties work here for a practical reason: the lane comes in behind the trees, so cars are not visible from the door.

Answers

Asked before every booking

Do you host milestone birthday parties?

Yes — fortieth, fiftieth, sixtieth, eightieth and anything else worth marking. Forty to a hundred and fifty guests is the usual range, in the evening.

Is there a dance floor?

Yes. The hall seats three hundred with the floor still open, so at a hundred guests there is a great deal of floor.

Can we do a cash bar?

Yes. A cash bar, a limited bar or a tab are all possible — they are different numbers rather than different arrangements.
