Saturdays are claimed first, priced highest and gone furthest out. Fridays and Sundays stay open far longer, and every venue in the county will be more flexible on them. So what does moving actually cost you?
Friday
What you give up: guests who work. A Friday evening wedding means anyone travelling takes a day off, and anyone local arrives straight from work, which shortens the getting-ready window and rules out most daytime ceremonies.
What you gain: the whole weekend afterwards. A Friday wedding leaves Saturday for the people who travelled, which is the strongest argument for it and the one couples forget to make in the invitation.
Sunday
What you give up: the end of the night. Sunday weddings finish earlier because Monday exists, and the dance floor thins after nine in a way it does not on a Saturday. Older guests and anyone with young children leave earliest.
What you gain: the best availability of the three, and a genuinely relaxed morning-after. A Sunday brunch wedding is an underrated format and almost nobody in this market offers a reason not to.
Holiday weekends
A Sunday of a three-day weekend behaves like a Saturday for guests and like a Sunday for pricing. Memorial Day, Labour Day and the Fourth of July are the obvious ones. They are the best value on the calendar if your list can travel.
How to decide
Write down the twenty guests whose presence would genuinely change the day for you. If more than three of them cannot make a Friday, pay for the Saturday. If they can, take the date and the saving and put it into the food.
